Gordon Research Conference on Tuberculosis Drug Development

Barga, Italy, 3 - 8 July 2011

Thirty members of the consortium attended the Gordon Research Conference on Tuberculosis Drug Development, chaired by Prof. Cole at Lucca in Italy from 3 - 8 July.

The 2011 Gordon Research Conference on Tuberculosis Drug Development will cover the range of activities involved in discovering and producing new drugs. With the realization that target-based screening for anti-bacterial agents has been disappointing, and that druggable targets are scarce, this GRC will also reassess the approaches involved. The conference will present new enabling technologies, address target and compound discovery, discuss new candidate drugs in development, highlight clinical trial design and share early trial results while also considering alternative approaches to tuberculosis treatment. We invite researchers interested in all of these aspects of drug development to attend and welcome participants from academia, industry, government and non-governmental organizations. In particular, we invite trainees and scientists from TB-endemic countries to apply as their contribution to the struggle against TB is especially important. All participants are asked to submit abstracts of their work for presentation as posters and some of these abstracts will be chosen for oral presentations. The conference provides the opportunity to interact with colleagues in an informal and intimate atmosphere and is designed to promote extensive discussion. In the past, the meeting has been oversubscribed - please apply early!

First MM4TB Consortium Meeting (Kick-off)

Davos, Switzerland, 17 February 2011

The More Medicines For Tuberculosis (MM4TB) one day kick-off meeting was held back-to-back with the final meeting of the FP6 project "New Medicines for Tuberculosis" (NM4TB) of which 16 of the 25 MM4TB members were participants, either as official Beneficiaries, collaborators, or members of the Scientific Advisory Board.

The meeting was hosted by Prof. Stewart T. Cole, FRS of the EPFL at the Schatzalp Hotel in Davos, Switzerland. The hotel had been proposed as a venue because it had operated as a Tuberculosis sanatorium until the 1950s. The meeting was attended by 71 participants with all Beneficiaries being represented and making a brief introductory presentation. The Chair of the Advisory Board, Prof. Barry Furr OBE was unable to be present, but was represented by Prof. Philip Butcher of Saintt Georges Hospital Medical Centre in London.
